Steve, you are so right about Kathi Martin.  I was in acappella choir also and Kathi did have a fantastic voice.  I was rather upset to have to change from SM North to West until I heard  Bill Oldham would be the music teacher.  I lived just blocks away from West and knew I had to go there and not North.  I look forward to seeing you at the reunion.

So sorry to hear that Kathie is gone.  Did she ever get to do something really special with that wonderful voice? When I still had a record player, I loved to put on our choir records to hear her again.

I am so sorry to see that Kathi is gone. I admired her lovely voice and really just enjoyed her. She was fun.

It was so much fun to be a part of the Music Man.  David McCubbin was fantastic and Kathi Martin as Eulalie McKecknie Shin ( whoops forgive spelling) was fabulous.  But her work in the choir was beyond her years,  She sang so many  solos that helped to make our choir so talented beyond our years.  Remember the song that started.....By Kathi......" tell me how did you feel,"......A spiritual that we all loved to sing.   I can say that as I have listened to choirs over the years, I have often thought,  "we sang that in high school!"  I especially remember "The Creation."  Her voice was one of a kind.

Does anyone know how long ago Kathi died?  She could do it all, from spirituals (Leanin' on the Lord) to the lead in "Dido and Aeneas," the latter being a very ambitious project for everyone, including the choir--thanks to Bill Oldham, I can still sing/croak all the Purcell choruses.  But Kathi was the real standout.  I remember her rendition of "Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man of Mine"--unbelievable for someone her age!  Steve Abrams couldn't have been more right that Kathi would have been a hit on American Idol and the like.  And does everyone remember how beautiful she was?  A double-threat (maybe triple) if ever there was one!
